AI Text Adventure: A Story That Reacts to You
Maze AI is an AI text adventure — a game you play by reading and deciding, where the narration is generated in response to what you do.
What is an AI text adventure?
An AI text adventure is a story-driven game where you read a scene, decide what your character does, and an AI narrator writes what happens next. Unlike classic text adventures with pre-programmed responses, the narration is generated during play — so the story can follow decisions the designers never scripted.
How does Maze AI react to choices?
Each turn, Maze AI shows you the current scene and a small set of choices written for that exact moment. When you pick one, the AI continues the story based on your choice, your character's stats, skills, traits, and inventory, and what has already happened in the adventure. Consequences persist: a bridge you burned stays burned.
The story also updates your character. Choices can raise or lower stats, add or remove items, and shift traits — and the narration takes those changes into account on the next turn.
Preset choices vs. custom actions
Preset choices are options the game offers each turn — distinct directions that fit the scene, useful when you want to keep the story moving at reading pace.
Custom actions are yours. Type what your character actually does — in your own words — and the narrator responds to that instead. Preset choices make the game effortless; custom actions make it yours. Most players mix both in a single session.
Why can replayed adventures diverge?
Because the narration is generated from your decisions rather than played back from a fixed tree, replaying the same scenario can lead somewhere different. Different choices compound: an early decision changes the situation, which changes the choices you're offered, which changes everything after. Even the same choice can be narrated differently on a second run — the scenario's premise and stakes stay fixed, but the path through them is generated for your playthrough.
