Enemy at the Table

“Peace depends on a private dinner with your enemy, and both guards have been sent away.”
The premise
Negotiate peace across a candlelit table with the commander blamed for your city's fall, while both sides prepare to betray the room by dawn.
Who you are
You are the appointed envoy of a wounded city-state, chosen because you survived the fall and because the council believes grief makes you convincing. Your family name still carries weight among refugees, soldiers, and merchants, but your private anger is dangerous: Commander Soren Vale is blamed for the night your city gates opened and thousands were taken, including your sister. Now peace requires sitting alone with him long enough to learn whether he is enemy, scapegoat, or something worse.
Your objective
Secure safe passage across the bridge for your city's refugees before dawn while uncovering who opened the gates and deciding whether Soren is a necessary ally, a liar, or the wrong enemy.
The kind of choices you'll face
A few illustrative examples — in play, choices are written for the exact situation you're in:
- Open with the refugee demand and force Soren to answer before eating.
- Ask about the sealed prisoner list before discussing peace.
- Accuse him of hiding behind diplomacy and watch what his face gives away.
And when none of the options say what you actually want to do, write your own action — the story responds to it just the same.
